Elba Career Tech students attend Joint Leadership Development Conference

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, a small group of Elba High School career tech leaders attended the JLDC (Joint Leadership Development Conference) in Birmingham, Ala. for the day!
JLDC is a conference held in different areas each year across Alabama that prepares students for leadership opportunities that will arise in the future. The conference included several clubs and organizations with over 2,000 students attending this year.
Elba High School was represented for FCCLA (Future Career & Community Leaders of America), Skills USA, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and FFA (Future Farmers of America). The leaders that included are as follows: FCCLA - President Victoria Greer, Vice President Emilee Hudson, Secretary Vicente Jimenez, Treasurer Bree Tyrues, Historian Chanlyn Free, and Activity Coordinator Mary Brunson; Skills USA - President Caitie Lusk and Reporter Christal Ingerman; FBLA - President Tiffany Richards, Vice President Kelsey Kelley; FFA - Tiffany Harrison, Caleb Walden, and Daniel Jimenez.
The day began with a quick registration sign-up, followed by a group consultation in the BJCC (Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center) with all of the students. Following this discussion, the counselors over the program allowed the groups of students to attend an exhibition that allowed them to envision their futures through colleges, job training programs, etc.
The students were fed a meal later that day that consisted of a pre-selected meal that ranged from chicken sandwiches and tenders to pizza! Drinks and snacks were also provided.
The day continued with guests like speaker Kent Julian, extreme sports athlete Tom McNeal, and a performance by America’s Got Talent semi-finalist Jaycob Curlee! Students were also encouraged to attend meet and greets with the performers and take pictures afterwards.
Not only were the students prepared for the bright futures ahead of them, but these leaders also motivated them. Elba High School is proud to announce they had a great turnout and cannot wait to send another great group as years come.
