Book donated to Elba High School library

Author Billy W. Smith donated a copy of his book “2nd Platoon - Journey of the Pack” last week to the Elba High School Library for placement in the bookcase designated for books authored by Elba High School alumni. Smith lives in the Basin Community of Coffee County, Alabama. During his service in Vietnam, he wrote many letters to his sister Vivian Fuchs and confided some of the harsher aspects of what he experienced. He kept a journal while in Vietnam. He carried that journal with him throughout his tour and remarkably managed to keep it intact. After 45 years, he decided to share his story and wrote his book. Here, Elba High School media specialist Jane Moseley (left) is shown with Billy W. Smith and his sister Vivian Fuchs. The three are standing in front of the bookcase, which was donated to the school by the Class of 1950 in memory of John Edwin Morrow.
