Elba Mayor Mickey Murdock last week signed a proclamation officially recognizing the month of September as Attendance Awareness Month for the Elba School System. In signing the proclamation, the mayor said the City of Elba would stand with the nation in this special recognition for the month and commit to focusing on reducing chronic absenteeism to give all children an equitable opportunity to learn, grow and thrive academically, emotionally and socially. According to the proclamation, “good attendance is essential to student achievement and graduation.” Mayor Murdock was joined by school officials for the signing of the proclamation.
