Elba band students apply for University of South Alabama’s Honor Band

On Monday, Sept. 8, the Elba High School Marching Tiger Band received very exciting news from their band director.
The University of South Alabama Jaguar Marching Band in Mobile, Ala. has begun to accept applications for this year’s USA Jaguar Marching Honor Band! This invitation is given to high school band students who are interested in practicing and performing along with the Jaguar band.
Almost all of the sections in the EHS band are able to participate this year. Many students of the EHS band have began to register for this opportunity.
Applicants include baritone player Troy Funk, tuba player Alberto Zavala, guard member Summer Deak, Band Captain Christal Ingerman and Drum Major Paige Weeks.
This trip to Mobile is an annual experience for Elba band students and is a definite cause for excitement!
Once the long awaited day of departure arrives in November, the participants will load onto a bus and hit the road! As soon as the participants step off their bus, the fun begins.
Although this experience is great fun for all, that is not the only benefit for band members.  It is also a great educational opportunity.
While the band members are in Mobile with the Jaguar band they have the opportunity to see what being a part of a college band is like. Students will not only practice and march with the band but perform with them during a special halftime show in front of thousands of fans.
Second timer Troy Funk says, “It’s a really fun experience, we get to march on the college field! You get to see what it would be like to march in a college band.”
It is clear this is one opportunity that nobody wants to miss!
